Pattern Notes

Tips for making this pattern

  • The Chain 2 at the beginning of each row counts as the first stitch throughout the entire pattern.
  • I decided on the chain method to start off this blanket as I prefer how the edge looks with this design. I work my stitches into the back bump of the chain. If you prefer you can easily start with a foundation double crochet (2 less than the number of chains called for in the pattern). This will take the place of the chain and the first row.
  • If you tend to crochet on the tighter side and having trouble achieving gauge I would size up on your crochet hook, and if you crochet loose and having trouble achieving gauge I would size down on your crochet hook.
  • Use a stitch marker at the beginning and end of each row to make it easier to know where the last stitch is to work into. (This will be in the top of the ch 2)
  • Use the crochet charts to visually see where the stitches are to be placed if you are having any difficulty with the placements.
  • This pattern uses asterisks (*) to mark repeat sections within a row. When you see a direction like “* fpdc, bpdc, rep from * across,” it means you’ll repeat the stitches between the asterisks (in this case, fpdc, bpdc) all the way across the row until instructed otherwise.
  • Play around with your colour selection for this blanket. Depending on what you pick you can have a bold or subtle look with this crochet pattern.

Gauge

11 sts x 8 rows
= 4 inches/10.16 cm squared

To figure out if your hook and yarn size achieve gauge for this blanket work up a swatch using Half Double Crochet
(make your swatch using pattern for gauge or at least 6″/15cm or bigger to get a good gauge measurement)
If your number of rows and stitches does not match gauge you will need to make some adjustments, and likely change your hook size.

Pattern for Gauge

Row 1: Ch 23, hdc into 3rd ch from hook, hdc into each ch across, turn. (22 sts, counting the initial ch 2 as a st)
Row 2: Ch 2, hdc into the next st, hdc into each st across, turn. (22 sts)
Row 3 to Row 15: Repeat row 2

Do I need to know how to read crochet charts to make this Crochet pattern?

I have been focusing on making my patterns more accessible by including both written instructions as well as crochet charts on any new patterns. Prefer written instructions but like to have the visual crochet chart to clarify the stitch placement? Don’t know how to read stitch charts but want to learn by doing patterns that have both written instructions and charts? Prefer working from a crochet chart as you find the symbols easier to follow than a written pattern? This pattern includes the full pattern in written form and the crochet chart.
